It’s that time of year again!

As we reported, the 2019 list of Grammy nominations came out on Friday. And per usual, there are snubs and surprises that sometimes leaves fans questioning the system when their favorite artist is left out in the cold.

All we have to say about this year’s list is that Swifties and Barbz are not going to be happy about it.

Let’s jump right in to this year’s list of snubs and surprises:

Nicki Minaj

This past August, Nicki released the highly-anticipated Queen studio album — her first album in nearly four years! It boasted features from her pop songstress bestie Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Eminem, and Lil Wayne. And who can forget when Minaj boldly called out Drake and Quavo on Barbie Dreams? Surprisingly, it wasn’t enough to earn the Chun-Li rapper rapper a Best Rap album nod.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift

Could this be the year that Tay goes home empty handed? She’ll have to beat out Camila Cabello, Kelly Clarkson, Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendes, and Pink in the only category she was nominated for: Best Pop Vocal album. Unlike previous years, Swift received no Album Of The Year nods, even though she’s been nominated and won twice before. Not to mention, Swifties and critics alike gave her Reputation album high praise.

The Black Panther Soundtrack

Kendrick Lamar The Weeknd SZA

The Black Panther soundtrack — which was curated by Kendrick Lamar and includes cuts from the rapper, SZAThe Weeknd, and more — joins a very short list of only thirteen other movie soundtracks to ever receive a Grammy nod. Nice!!

The Backstreet Boys

The Backstreet Boys

Backstreet is back, alright!? The boy band from yesteryear got back together to release their summer hit Don’t Go Breaking My Heart, landing them a nod for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. We guess the Academy has a soft spot for the group as its their first nomination in 17 years! Who saw this one coming?!

Fall Out Boy

Fall Out Boy

The pop-punk band surprisingly receives their first nom since 2006 for this year’s studio album, Mania. Bassist Pete Wentz revealed to People that the group actually scrapped most of the album’s first iteration and started over from scratch before releasing, because “it wasn’t bad, it was just okay.” Looks like that extra effort really paid off!

Mean Girls On Broadway

Mean Girls on Broadway

2018 has seen quite the resurgence of love for Mean Girls! The Mean Girls musical — based on the 2004 cult classic teen comedy — led the 2018 Tony nominations with 12 nods… but received no love from the Grammys with zero nominations. The Band’s Visit, Carousel, Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert starring John Legend, My Fair Lady, and Once on This Island are up for best musical theater album.

Maren Morris

The country music beauty scored herself some major recognition for her cover of Elton John‘s Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters. The 28-year-old could really win big this year as she is also up for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with Zedd and Grey for The Middle and Best Country Duo/Group performance with Vince Gill for Dear Hate.

Mac Miller (Posthumously)

Mac Miller & Ariana Grande

In a beautiful nod to the late rapper’s final project Swimming, Mac Miller posthumously receives his first Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album. It’s tough to say though if the 26-year-old will best Travis Scott, Cardi B, Nipsey Hussle, and Pusha T who are also in the running for that gramophone. Miller’s ex Ariana Grande (pictured above) is also nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album.
