SPORT NEWS: Australia Vs India – First ODI

With Team India ensuring authority in the longest format of the game by winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2-1, after 70 long years, captain Kohli and his men will be in high spirits to end the tour on a high as the three-match ODI series gets close to initiation.

The tour started with the three T20Is, which ended on level terms with Australia winning the first game, the second match being washed off, and India turning out to be the victorious side in the final T20. India then got the better of the hosts in the Tests, as Australia will now look to redeem themselves in the fifty over format with the preparations for the ICC Cricket World Cup getting underway.

Aaron Finch will want to turn a new leaf in the colored jersey, as he returns to lead the team after a torrid Test series.

With Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood being sidelined by the selectors for the ODIs, the responsibility will now be in the hands of the 34 year old Peter Siddle, Billy Stanlake, Jhye Richardson, and Jason Behrendorff in the pace bowling department. The spin attack will be lead  by Nathan Lyon, along with the wrist spinner – Adam Zampa, and Ashton Turner.

Big hitters Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell return to the equation, while the likes of Usman Khawaja, Peter Handscomb, and the Marsh brothers would love to dust the deeds of the Tests under the carpet, in what was a forgettable series for each and every one of them.

The men in blue on the other hand have decided to give their spearhead pacer Jasprit Bumrah a rest for the limited overs format, and have called in Hyderabad based fast bowler – Mohammed Siraj in what shall be his debut ODI series. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the likely candidate to lead the attack, with newbie Khaleel Ahmed providing further assistance as the third choice pacer.

India’s strength will rely on its top three batsmen comprising of Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli who look the most threatening when wearing the blue kit for India. Ambati Raydu’s inclusion also adds a bit of flair and stability to the line-up, along with Dinesh Karthik, MS Dhoni, and Kedhar Jhadav present in the dressing room to add the finishing touches with the bat, out there in the middle.

Since India lost the ODI series to Australia 4-1 when they last traveled there, Virat Kohli and co. will be looking to add another feather to their caps by registering one more emphatic win on the current tour, but this time in the fifty over format. Australia on the other hand will give a final huff and puff against India in order to ensure confidence and solidarity before David Warner and Steve Smith make way to strengthen the nation down under.
