SPORT NEWS: Nithin, Nisar emerge fastest youth in India

Delhi judokas continued to dominate the discipline but host Maharashtra and Punjab also managed to make their presence felt in Judo at the Khelo India Youth Games 2019. On Day 2 of the competition, Delhi grabbed three golds from the eight finals that were held during the day. Maharashtra and Punjab grabbed two each. As a result, Delhi took their two-day gold tally to six.

In-form Delhi girl Prachi Tokas surprised favorite Khushi Dinesh of Karnataka in the girls U-17 Freestyle event, to win her second successive gold as Delhi swimmers dominated the pool on the 3rd day of the Games in Pune. Of the 11 golds at stake on Friday Delhi won four, Karnataka and Maharashtra three each and Tamil Nadu one.

Wrestling powerhouse Haryana continued their domination on the third day. The state grapplers, who have already won 11 gold medals, added a further five along with six silver and four bronze medals. So far, Haryana leads the tally with 43 medals under their belt with 16 golds.

Goa spoiled Manipur’s party by handing them a 1-0 defeat in the boys’ U-21 category while the girls from the North-East opened their campaign with thumping wins in the football competition. Manipur girls proved too strong for their rivals in both the U-17 and U-21, defeating Chandigarh 10-1 in the former category and Jharkhand 12-0 in the senior event.

Maharashtra continued its rule at the top of the medal tally, followed by Delhi and Haryana.
