SPORT NEWS: Australia vs India – Toss Report

Australia won the toss and elected to bat first in the opening One-Day International game of the series. There is a nice covering of grass on the pitch and it is a good batting track. The average first inning score is 327 on this ground.

After winning the toss, Australian skipper Aaron Finch said that they want to put runs on the board so that they can mount some pressure on the Indian contingent.

He added, “I think we need to get right in the middle overs. We need to brush up there and improve. I think we need to keep wickets in the back end. Most of the guys in the team are fresh after playing Big Bash League.”

Left-arm medium pacer Jason Behrendorff has been included in the team and will be making his One-Day International debut today. Test specialists Usman Khawaja & Nathan Lyon have also been named in the playing XI. Fast bowler Peter Siddle will be playing his first ODI since 2010 as he makes the cut in the playing XI.

Meanwhile, Indian skipper Virat Kohli wanted to bat first as well but shared that most of the team preferred to chase on this pitch.

Virat said, “It is brilliant wicket to play on, with shorter boundary on one side. It is going to be an exciting chase as I am always inclined towards chasing. We need to strike big early. It is sad that two of our key members, Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul are not in the team, it had deeply affected the balance of the side.”

Ravindra Jadeja has been included in the team with Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar & Khaleel Ahmed handling the pace department.
