SPORT NEWS: South Africa Vs Pakistan – Third Test – Day 1

On the first day of the third and final Test between South Africa and Pakistan at the Wanderers, it was the Protease who came in to bat first as they compiled a score of 262 after getting bundled out  courtesy 2 wickets a piece from Mohammad Amir,  Abbas, Hasan Ali, with Faheem Ashraf leading the pack with 3 wickets under his belt, while the spinner Shadab Khan scalped 1 wicket.

Aiden Markram displayed his good run with the bat yet again as he fell just 10 runs short of scoring a century after facing 124 deliveries while striking 16 boundaries during his innings. Hashim Amla showed a bit of fight for the hosts along with Markram and scored a solid knock of 41 (98). Theunis de Bruyn also chipped in with a 49 (82), and was accompanied with debutant Zubayr Hamza who had an impressive start while playing for his country as he scored 41 (68), with 5 boundaries and 1 six to his name.

But South Africa couldn’t pile up the runs in the final half of the day as they went from 229-4 to 262-10, through some gritty bowling by the Pakistani pacers.

The visitors had the opportunity to end Day 1 on a high by scoring some valuable runs right up front, but it wasn’t to be as Vernon Philander scalped the wickets of Shan Masood and Azhar Ali  2 and not, with Pakistan’s score on 17, as Sarfaraz’s worry with the top three batsmen misfiring continues.

South Africa will be wanting to wrap up Pakistan’s innings as quick as possible in order to get a healthy lead, while Pakistan have a to show up a big fight against the hosts if they stand any chance of ensuring solidarity in the final Test.
