SPORT NEWS: Don’t see any drastic changes before the World Cup

With the ICC Cricket World Cup in England and Wales just months away from commencing, India’s ‘Hit-man,’ and vice captain of the men in blue – Rohit Sharma suggests that there will be changes in the squad that get on that plane to the United Kingdom (UK), but the chances of those changes being big are quite minimal, with the expectation of only a few players missing out the world event.

“The squad that plays these 13 ODIs is more or less the same squad that will go to the World Cup. There will be one or two changes, keeping in mind the form and injury concerns over the next few months,” Rohit Sharma said.

India will be facing the Australian team up next in the three match ODI series, which will be followed by their tour to New Zealand, with Australia and Zimbabwe then traveling to India for a few ODIs right before the World Cup. Sharma expressed that there might be some fitness issues before the most awaited tournament begins, and therefore feels that the players need to conserve and restore their energies for the big stage starting March 30.

“We played a lot of cricket throughout the year, so injuries are bound to happen. And there will be some concerns about form and fitness. I don’t see there will be any drastic changes to the squad,” Rohit further added.

“I would not say every individual that is going to be part of the next few series would be playing the World Cup. You have got to perform. But there won’t be drastic changes,” said the opening batsman.
