AUS v IND – India’s mid-inning report – First ODI (Sydney)

The Indian innings have reached the halfway mark and the Men in Blue, never in their wildest dreams, would have thought that Australian bowling line-up will fall like a thunderbolt on the Indian batsmen.

The Indian skipper would have wanted the openers, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, to set up a great foundation for the team. But, debutant left-arm pacer Jason Behrendorff had some different ideas and he bowled an amazing delivery to get rid of Shikhar Dhawan.

It was a golden duck for Dhawan. Behrendorff pitched the ball around off and of full length, Shikhar looked to flick across the line and got struck on the pads. This was dead plumb as it didn’t need much of an appealing by the Aussies.

The captain of the Indian team and the world’s best batsman Virat Kohli was out in the middle. Everyone expected a captain’s knock from him and another young pacer from Australia, Jhye Richardson, picked up the important wicket of Kohli in the fourth over of the Indian innings.

Bowled on the pads by Richardson and Kohli flicked it straight to Marcus Stoinis at short square leg. Excellent field placement had brought about Virat’s downfall. With that wicket, Australia were reeling with confidence.

When everyone thought that it could not get worse for the Men in Blue, Richardson came back into the attack and sent Ambati Rayudu back into the pavilion.

A good length delivery from Jhye around middle and leg snaked into touch and beat the batsman’s flick. The ball rapped on the pads and this was going on to hit the leg-stump.

At the end of 4th over India were in big trouble as they had put just 4 runs on the board for the loss of three wickets.

Explosive Indian batsman Rohit Sharma and experienced campaigner MS Dhoni have been building a strong partnership for Team India. Rohit took his time as he did not look at his best at the early period of his knock, while Dhoni is taking his time to score his runs.

Sharma accelerated his inning and completed his 38th half-century.

Both the batsmen have added 95 runs for the fourth wicket.

Richardson has been the pick of the bowlers for Australia as of now. He has picked up 2 wickets and gave away just 6 runs in his 4 overs. Behrendorff has also chipped in with one wicket.

At the end of 25 overs, the Men in Blue have put 99 runs on the scoreboard for the loss of three wickets with Rohit Sharma (52) and MS Dhoni (37) still at the crease.
